Press TV has conducted an interview with Mark Glenn, a political commentator from Idaho, about the Israeli regime’s soaring violations of Palestinian media rights amid the tensions in the occupied territories.
The following is rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: The West, being Israel’s main ally, keeps claiming to be an advocate of democracy, human rights and freedom of speech, yet when it comes to the occupied territories and to Palestine and Palestinian journalists, there seems to be in abysmal silence, why is that?
Glenn: We have to remember that whenever the West and especially the United States uses terms like freedom and democracy and free speech that these are just marketing terms that are used sell a product that really is inferior.
Freedom and democracy and all of these things are relative terms that are used to justify certain geopolitical actions that are taken and if there’s any place where this obviously is proven to be false, it’s just in this case alone with the journalist being killed.
Imagine if these were Western journalists for example trying to report on what’s going on within Iran and if they were subjected to even just one tenth...of the kind of coercion that has been put against these Palestinian journalists…the West would be squealing like a stuck pig over the abrogation of freedom of speech and freedom of press.
I think that the bigger question that has to be looked at here is what is Israel so worried about? Why do they fear Palestinian cameras?
