Israeli minister says he prefers Daesh to Iran in Syria

Israeli Minister of Military Affairs Moshe Ya’alon

Israel’s Minister of Military Affairs Moshe Ya’alon says he prefers the presence of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in Syria to that of Iran .

Addressing a conference in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, Ya’alon said if he had to choose between Iran and Daesh, he would choose Daesh, because the terrorist group does not have the capabilities of the Islamic Republic and would eventually be defeated, Ynet news reported.

“We believe ISIS will be eventually defeated territorially after the blows it has been suffering, and in light of the attacks on its oil reserves,” he said, using an alternative acronym for Daesh.

Describing Iran as the “greatest enemy” of Israel, Ya’alon claimed that “Iran determines future of Syria and if it leads to perpetuation, Iranian hegemony in Syria will be huge challenge for Israel.”

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The crisis has reportedly claimed the lives of more than 260,000 people so far and displaced millions of others.

Israel has reportedly been supporting the militants fighting the government of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad.

The Israeli regime has also set up hospitals near the border with Syria to treat the injured militants coming in from the battlefield there. Locals in the occupied Golan Heights also intercepted Israeli vehicles transporting injured militants on the road between al-Sheikh Mountain and the village of Majdal Sham.
