World powers to join Russia in fighting Daesh: Analyst

Press TV has conducted an interview with Jim W. Dean, managing editor of Veterans Today in Atlanta, and Peter Sinnott, an independent scholar in New York, about Russia stepping up its efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria and to fight the Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

Dean notes that the US is not really fighting Daesh because if it wanted to, this terrorist group would have been wiped out a long time ago.

He maintains that “the game has changed” and there is now support from world powers that are willing to join Russia’s coalition in Syria to fight Daesh, “because they see a threat of it getting out of control.”

The analyst further states that the only way to defeat Daesh is to use the Syrian army and to support President Bashar al-Assad, something that the US has not done.

Sinnott, for his part, believes there is a nasty civil war going on in Syria that can only be resolved on the ground, adding that if it is done by the Russian forces or the American forces, it will set in the basis for another kind of war. He also says “it is a very difficult situation but I do not think keeping Assad in power will help at all.”
