Iran's Farzan Ashourzadeh Fallah has put on outstanding performances at the 2015 WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series 1 in Russia, and brought home a gold medal.
On Saturday, the 18-year-old Iranian prodigy impressed the spectators with his athletic skills as he marched to the final of the minus 58-kilogram weight division at the Dinamo Krylatskoye Gymnasium in northwestern Moscow.
Ashourzadeh Fallah received a bye in the first round. He then beat his Brazilian opponent Venilton Teixeira by point gap (PTG) 13-0 in his first contest. PTG happens when a taekwondo competitor has a 12-point lead at the end of the second round, or achieves a 12 point lead at any point in the third round.
He then defeated South Korea’s Cha Tae-moon 17-5 in the quarterfinal round to once again breeze past his rival by PTG.
Ashourzadeh Fallah was also dominant in the semi-final, routing German athlete Levent Tuncat 10-5.
The Iranian teenager overwhelmed Carlos Navarro, a representative from Brazil, 8-5 in the last contest, and collected the gold medal.
Germany's Tuncat and South Korean competitor Tae-hun Kim both won bronze.
The 2015 WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series 1 opened in the Russian capital of Moscow on August 14, and will wrap up later on Sunday.
The three-day event has brought together 245 taekwondo practitioners from 52 countries, including Croatia, Egypt, Iran, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Turkey and the United States.
