The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has welcomed cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In a statement on Thursday, the 120-member organization, which is currently chaired by Iran, hailed Tehran’s implementation of nuclear transparency measures agreed with the IAEA.
The statement, read out by Iranian Ambassador to the IAEA Reza Najafi at a meeting of the UN nuclear agency's Board of Governors in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Thursday, also praised recent constructive talks between the Islamic Republic and the UN nuclear agency in Tehran.
Back in November 2013, Iran and the IAEA signed a joint statement to outline a roadmap on further bilateral cooperation on certain outstanding issues.
It also said that the choices and decisions that member states, including Iran, make with respect to the peaceful applications of nuclear know-how and fuel cycle policies must be respected.
NAM countries also voiced support for the mutual understanding reached between Iran and the P5+1 group in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2 on the key parameters of a final deal.
They also stressed diplomacy as the only solution to put an end to the decade-old Western dispute with Tehran over its nuclear program.
Negotiators from Iran and the P5+1 group of countries – the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany – are seeking to finalize a comprehensive deal on Tehran’s nuclear program by July 30.
Iran and its negotiating partners have been working on the text of a final deal since they reached a mutual understanding on the key parameters of a final deal in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2.
The NAM countries also underlined the need for safeguarding Iran’s nuclear accomplishments, stressing that attacking or threatening to attack peaceful nuclear facilities is a blatant violation of international law, UN Charter and IAEA regulations.
