On Tuesday the Sydney staff for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israeli human rights abuses held a forum titled “Why Boycotting Israel isn’t Anti-Semitic”.

The academic conference was held at the University of Sydney and featured three Jewish academics and anti-racism activists.

The speakers addressed common arguments against movements that call to boycott Israel including those that label such movements as anti-Semitic.

In recent times such movements have been increasing in popularity around the world including in countries like the United States which have for a long time formed strong relations with Israel.

The conference comes at a time Israel continues violating the rights of Palestinians but many of them are hoping for peaceful resolutions.

The organisers of the event hope that the forum will help people understand that the human rights abuses that Israel continues to commit are in no shape or form related to the wider Jewish community.
