Ghairat Khan is an Afghan war victim. He fled his village in southern province of Helmand two years ago to save his family from the Taliban. Khan abandoned his entire farming business there. Now he lives in this make-shift camp here in the capital, Kabul. But now he has learned that Afghan forces have successfully driven out Taliban militants from much of Helmand and is planning to go back to his village now.

Khan is not the only man here who is happy to see Afghan forces in the lead.
Ahmad Malik is another Afghan citizen who believes will soon change for better in this country. Malik wants to spend his entire life back at his own village in Laghman province, in the east. He is now counting down days to leave this camp.

Afghan civilians have taken the brunt of the US-led war in the past 14 years. Thousands were killed and injured and thousands of others were internally displaced. But now Afghan security forces are taking things back into their own hands, and it is a good sign of progress in a post-war society.

The number of Afghan security forces is increasing more than ever now. More people here in Afghanistan are joining the military to defend their country fight against the Taliban and end the sufferings of their people, especially those who live in such appalling conditions. The war victims here know it is not going to happen overnight, but they are hopeful for a big change.
