Spain’s police have arrested four people in the city of Ceuta on suspicion of belonging to a Takfiri militant group.

The arrests were made on Saturday, with Spanish Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz saying that the detainees “are two pairs of very radicalized brothers who are highly trained militarily, physically and mentally.”

He added that they were prepared to launch an attack in the country and “ready, according to the police, to blow themselves up in the act.”

According to a statement by the ministry, investigators are now evaluating the Takfiri group’s “infrastructure to carry out terror attacks” in Spain.

During the Saturday morning’s raids, police searched two houses in Ceuta after a judge and the state prosecutor attached to Spain’s National Court gave the instructions.

The four detained brothers are reportedly of Moroccan origin but hold Spanish nationality.

El Pais newspaper quoted unnamed sources as saying that police investigation had begun two weeks ago when one of the detainees posted a video online which showed him giving military training and urging others to wage attacks.

Spain has recently ratcheted up its security measures and efforts to prevent the radicalization of its youth following a spate of terror attacks in Paris earlier this month that left 17 people dead.

Over the past several years, dozens of suspected Takfiri terrorists and recruiters have been detained in Spain and Morocco, especially around the cities of Melilla and Ceuta.

Spain, along with several other European countries, is trying to discourage its young citizens from going to Syria or Iraq, where they join the ranks of Takfiri terrorist groups as Madrid fears they might come back to launch attacks on the Spanish soil.
