Army chief: President Pezeshkian's UN speech manifested steadfastness of Iran

The commander-in-chief of the Iranian Army has extended his appreciation to President Masoud Pezeshkian for manifesting the steadfastness of Iran in his address to the United Nations General Assembly.

Major General Amir Hatami made the remarks on Thursday after Pezeshkian used his speech on Wednesday to lay bare the terrorist nature of the United States which has killed and wounded tens of thousands of Iranians during its recent illegal war of aggression against the Islamic Republic.

Hatami said President Pezeshkian’s speech “was a powerful expression of the strength of Iran’s brave, resilient, and proud people, reflecting the unity and solidarity of the entire nation in the face of a bullying enemy.”

“Pezeshkian demonstrated to the world the legitimacy of a powerful, proud Islamic Iran at the US,” he added.

Additionally, on Thursday, Iran’s Acting Defense Minister Brigadier General Majid Ibn al-Reza said in an X post that Pezeshkian's speech marked the change in Iran’s defense doctrine.

“We are continuing to rapidly develop defensive capabilities in line with this new doctrine, with a range of groundbreaking initiatives and capabilities at our disposal that strengthen our deterrence and national power,” he said. “The Iranian people cannot be spoken to through threats and coercion.”

Earlier, Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Major General Ali Abdollahi praised Pezeshkian’s remarks as a slap in the face of criminal US President Donald Trump.

The speech, he said, translated into “the resounding voice of the proud and divinely commissioned Iranian nation.”

During his address, Pezeshkian held up photographs of some of the innocent Iranian children the United States killed in an airstrike on their school in the southern city of Minab during the opening salvo of the unprovoked aggression against Iran.

“These children perished under bombs with weapons used by the United States and Israel. They were innocent,” the Iranian president said.

“Those who are terrorists, and train and protect terrorists, describe us as such,” he continued. “We have only defended ourselves. We are not terrorists.”

The comments came a day after Trump again threatened to “annihilate” Iran. In response, Pezeshkian said the Iranian nation will keep resisting US sanctions, pressure and bullying, noting, “We will never bow our head or bend at the knee.”

Pezeshkian argued that a world that only understands the language of power will never achieve sustainable peace.

The United States and Israel launched their illegal, unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on February 28. They assassinated Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with senior military commanders.

Forty days later, on April 8, Iran’s enemies were forced to accept a ceasefire amid its resistance, successful, decisive retaliatory operations, and firm control over the Strait of Hormuz.

In July, the US conducted waves of deadly air raids on Iran and imposed a naval blockade of the country in violation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Republic, signed on June 17, to end the war.

In response, the Iranian armed forces launched devastating strikes against strategic American targets across West Asia and declared the Strait of Hormuz closed to all traffic.
