Israeli forces intensify their atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza, killing and injuring more civilians, especially in the central and southern parts of the territory.

The Gaza Health Ministry said on Thursday that at least 66,225 Palestinians have been killed and 168,938 in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023.

“Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” it added.

At least 77 civilians were killed and 222 people were injured in a single day by Israeli forces.

One of the regime’s strikes killed four Palestinians after a tent sheltering displaced people was hit south of Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza.

Separate airstrikes in central and southern Gaza left several civilians, including a child, injured, one of them in critical condition.

Casualties were also reported following Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City’s Al-Shati refugee camp.

A large number of civilians, including women and children, suffered suffocation after an Israeli drone dropped tear gas and smoke bombs on a school housing displaced persons west of Gaza City.

Earlier, nine Palestinians, including a father, his four sons, and his grandson, were killed in an airstrike in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza.

On September 18, the United States exercised its veto power to block a United Nations Security Council resolution that called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The resolution demanded the unrestricted entry and distribution of humanitarian aid into Gaza and emphasized the restoration of essential services amid a confirmed famine and escalating military operations.

Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, further called upon the Security Council to adopt and enforce an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the lifting of all Israeli restrictions and blockades on humanitarian aid, in compliance with international humanitarian law.

He said the world body should reject and denounce any schemes involving annexations and forced displacement, or resettlement in third countries.
