A high-ranking official from the Hamas resistance movement has decried US President Donald Trump's 20-point plan to end Israel’s war on Gaza, saying the proposal is not solely aimed at Hamas as a faction, but rather targets the entire Palestinian people and their national cause.

Abdul Rahman Shadid said in a statement on Wednesday that the response to the plan, which poses grave dangers to the future of the Palestinian issue as well as Palestinians’ rights, core principles, and political identity, will be a distinctively collective one.

He stated that a conclusive answer will be given following additional discussions with various Palestinian groups.

On Tuesday, Trump said Hamas has “three or four days” to respond to his Gaza ceasefire proposal, telling reporters that Israeli and Arab leaders had already accepted the plan.

“Hamas is either going to be doing it or not, and if it’s not, it’s going to be a very sad end,” he said at the White House.

Qatar said Hamas officials received the full plan late on Monday night and have promised to “responsibly examine” it.

Trump’s comments came a day after the White House announced the plan that purportedly calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the exchange of Israeli captives held by Hamas for Palestinians in Israeli prisons, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

Under the proposal, Hamas would be required to disarm, and the US would work with Arab and international partners to install a so-called “temporary international stabilization force.”

The plan also states that Hamas would play no role in governing Gaza.

Since the Gaza war began in October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed at least 66,148 people and wounded 168,716 others.
