'We are here for Palestine' – Thousands rally in Istanbul in solidarity with Global Sumud Flotilla
Thousands of demonstrators join a mass rally in Istanbul in support of the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla.
Footage shows attendees marching through the city, waving Turkish and Palestinian flags, while hoisting portraits of key leaders from Hamas."We are here for Palestine for the children who died in Gaza, for the martyr families," a demonstrator said.
"I think it is imperative to organize demonstrations and the needed actions, as well as peaceful initiatives such as this Sumud Flotilla," another added.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, a coalition of activists from various organisations, set sail from Menorca island last Thursday heading toward Tunisia, as other boats are expected to join the Flotilla in a mission aimed at breaking the Israeli naval blockade.
The flotilla is reportedly scheduled to arrive in mid-September.
