Outrage erupted on social media after the Israeli regime assassinated Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and other senior officials in an airstrike on the capital, Sana’a, with netizens and public figures pledging solidarity with Yemen and Gaza.
The Ansarallah resistance movement announced in a statement on Saturday that al-Rahawi was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Thursday.
The attack also killed and wounded a number of other ministers, the statement said.
Mohammed Ahmed Ahmed Muftah, the first deputy prime minister, has been appointed to serve as acting prime minister of Yemen.
Social media was flooded with reactions, with many vowing revenge and expressing support for Palestinians.
Since Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, Yemeni forces have carried out numerous retaliatory attacks in solidarity with Palestinians, vowing they will not stop until the war and blockade on the besieged strip end.
In response, Israel has repeatedly bombed Yemeni infrastructure and civilian areas.
In a post on X, Mubarak Al-Asali, editor-in-chief of Yemen’s Al-Masirah newspaper, said Yemen had sacrificed its leadership in solidarity with Gaza, “while many governments betrayed Palestine.”
While many governments betrayed Palestine, Yemen sacrificed its own government for her.

Rest in peace, great martyr Ahmad Ghalib Al-Rahwi — your blood is a beacon of resistance.
Another user, Oday, a law student, wrote, “Victory will be ours because we are the ones who are right and right is ours.”
Al-Rahabi Muhammad, a surgeon, said Yemen started to fight the Israeli regime in solidarity with Gaza, “knowing we face the world’s most armed criminals, knowing bombs will fall and sacrifices will be demanded.”
Many Yemenis have expressed their determination to continue supporting Gaza despite recent losses. X user Ammar Al-Yamani said that despite losing key leaders, Yemen preserved its values, morality, and dignity.
He said that Yemen will continue to support Gaza, “no matter the difficulties and challenges and no matter how great the sacrifices.”
It is true that we lost great men, but in return we preserved our religion, morals, dignity, humanity, and manhood, and we will continue the battle, trusting in God, no matter the difficulties and challenges and no matter how great the sacrifices.

Solidarity with Palestinians was framed as both a moral and religious obligation in Yemen, with Bassam Alsaqqaf, an engineer, saying it is the Yemeni people’s “religious and moral duty to stand up for the blood of the martyrs in Gaza, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.”
Some netizens also emphasized the collective nature of the resistance, viewing Yemeni and Palestinian sacrifices as interconnected.
X user Ibrahim Naji echoed the sentiment, saying the blood of the Yemeni people “is not more precious than the blood of the people of Gaza. We will take revenge.”
Our blood is not more precious than the blood of the people of Gaza, our souls are not more precious than the souls of the people of Gaza, our children are not more precious than the children of Gaza, and our leaders are not more precious than the leaders of Gaza.

We will take…
Another user addressed Israel directly in a message on social media, noting Yemen’s population of nearly 40 million and the country’s readiness to “carry the banner of any martyr who falls on the battlefield… for Gaza, and for every oppressed soul on this earth.”

Do you know that Yemen’s population is nearly 40 million?
And do you know how many of them are ready to carry the banner of any martyr who falls on the battlefield.. for Gaza, and for every oppressed soul on this earth?
50 million.. (1/4)
The assassination of Yemen’s prime minister signals a dangerous escalation by Israel, aimed at deterring regional actors from opposing its genocidal campaign in Gaza. Observers, however, say the heinous crime will intensify anti-Zionist outrage across the Arab world, with Yemen emerging as a prominent voice of resistance.
They say such targeted assassinations will heighten regional tensions, as public opinion rallies behind Gaza and calls for accountability grow louder worldwide.
