Iran nuclear program

Iran has reiterated that the three European members of the 2015 agreement, known as the JCPOA, lack the legal standing to activate the so-called snapback mechanism under the deal. The comment was made by deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, following the latest round of talks with the European troika in Geneva. Kazem Gharibabadi said the troika is not legally entitled to invoke the snapback, as they have failed to implement the JCPOA during past years, including by imposing new sanctions against Tehran. He warned that any move to invoke the mechanism would elicit a firm response from Iran. The response, he said, would include a potential halt to Tehran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Gharibabadi added that such a move would end Europe’s role in nuclear negotiations, and further talks would be only held through the UN Security Council and its members. He noted that Tehran is ready for either of two scenarios of confrontation or cooperation, which may be chosen by the European troika. Gharibabadi reaffirmed that if Europeans choose for confrontation, Iran would show appropriate reaction.

US-Israeli Gaza genocide

Israeli forces intensify air and artillery strikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, killing dozens more Palestinians, including a large number of aid seekers. One of the latest Israeli attacks hit a home in the Al-Bureij refugee camp, in central Gaza, killing a mother and her child. Separately, the regime’s forces opened fire on aid seekers in northern and central Gaza, killing five and injuring several others. Four more civilians were killed when Israeli forces targeted people waiting for aid northwest of Gaza. Israeli artillery fire also killed seven more Palestinians in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza. According to Gaza’s medical sources, nearly 20 aid seekers were killed on Wednesday, increasing the death toll among Palestinians looking for food aid to nearly 2,160. The health ministry also reported ten new deaths from famine and malnutrition, including two children, raising the total toll to 313 deaths, including 119 children. The Gaza genocide’s death toll is nearing 62,900, with more than 158,920 others injured.

Gaza ceasefire efforts

A senior Hamas member has dismissed recent statements by US special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who held the resistance movement responsible for obstructing Gaza ceasefire talks. Izzat Al-Rishq said such statements Do not reflect the reality of the systematic obstruction caused by the Israeli regime’s intransigence. He described Witkoff's statements as merely an echo of the voice of Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his cabinet of war criminals. Al-Rishq noted that the US envoy is blindly repeating Israel’s narrative, which is far from the facts known to mediators and the international community. The top Hamas official added that by such comments, the United States is trying to provide Netanyahu with a cover to continue his genocidal war against civilians in Gaza. Al-Rishq said Witkoff’s stance comes despite the movement’s clear acceptance of the latest Gaza ceasefire proposal, ignoring the fact that Israel continues to destroy Gaza City and commit massacres.
