US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
The Israeli military is slaughtering more Palestinian civilians in Gaza by carrying out fresh air and artillery strikes against the blockaded territory. In one of the deadliest attacks, at least nine people were killed after Israeli warplanes bombed north of Gaza city. In northern Gaza, Israeli occupation forces opened fire on Palestinians near Jabalia, killing and injuring several people. Fatalities were also reported after the Israeli military bombed a residential building east of Gaza City. The Israeli artillery shelling was also deadly with multiple fatalities in several areas across Gaza. According to Gaza officials, the death toll from the US-Israeli genocide since October 2023 is nearing 54,100, with over 123,300 others injured.
Curbs on pro-Palestine activism
The Harvard community stands up for international students as tensions escalate between the university and the US government over demands to suppress pro-Palestine student activism. Hundreds of students, parents, professors and university staff protested following the administration’s announcement that it intends to terminate all remaining financial contracts with Harvard. They opposed Trump’s expanding crackdown, which targets approximately 30 contracts, worth 100 million dollars. This is not the first time the administration has attempted to block Harvard's funding. In April, the White House threatened the university's tax-exempt status and froze 2.2 billion dollars in federal funding, prompting a lawsuit. A month later, an additional 450 million dollars in grants was cut. Also last week, Trump moved to block the university’s ability to accept international students.
Russia-Ukraine war
Russia reports repelling a massive overnight drone assault, with nearly three hundred Ukrainian drones intercepted across multiple regions. In one of the largest drone attacks since the war began in February 2022, Russia’s defense ministry announced that 296 Ukrainian drones were destroyed or intercepted. Approximately 40 of these drones were aimed at Moscow, prompting the suspension of flights at the city’s main airports for several hours. Outside the capital, drones targeted the southwestern Bryansk region, along with Kursk, Belgorod, Tula, Oryol, and Kaluga. The attack followed Ukraine’s own reports of heavy Russian drone strikes causing civilian casualties. Russia says its strikes are retaliatory measures against Ukrainian attacks that have caused civilian losses.
