Iran-US indirect talks

The fourth round of indirect talks between Iran and the US have ended. The talks were held in the capital of Oman, focusing on Iran’s nuclear energy program and the removal of sanctions on Tehran. The talks, headed by Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi and the United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steven Witkoff, lasted more than 3 hours. A US official expressed satisfaction with the talks saying a next meeting will happen in the near future. In the lead-up to the talks on Sunday, Witkoff again called for the complete dismantlement of Iran’s nuclear program. Iran’s foreign minister has criticized the contradictory statements by US officials saying that nuclear enrichment is the red line for Tehran.

US-Israeli Gaza genocide

Nineteen months into Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, the regime keeps hammering the devastated strip, leaving a trail of death and destruction behind. A series of air and artillery strikes on tents housing displaced Palestinians in the southern city of Khan Yunis left nine Palestinians, mostly women and children, dead. Multiple others were also injured in the attacks. Four Palestinians also lost their lives and nearly two dozen others were wounded following an airstrike in the central city of Deir al-Balah. To the north, an Israeli strike targeting tents of the displaced left several fatalities. According to the Gaza health ministry, 19 Palestinians were killed in 24 hours. The Israeli genocidal campaign has claimed over 52,800 lives since October 2023. Nearly 119,500 others have also been injured since then.

India-Pakistan ceasefire

A ceasefire between India and Pakistan appears to be holding, hours after the nuclear-armed neighbours accused each other of violations. The truce came into effect on Saturday after four days of heavy fighting. Hours after the announcement, an Indian government source stated that Pakistan violated the ceasefire, with loud blasts reported in Indian-administered Kashmir. India's foreign secretary said that New Delhi has retaliated after Pakistan's repeated violations of the truce. Islamabad said it remains committed to the ceasefire and that its forces were handling violations by India with responsibility and restraint. More than 60 people have been killed in the cross-border fighting after India accused Pakistan of being involved in the deadly Kashmir attack last month, a charge that Islamabad denies.
