A leading group of British human rights lawyers is slated to submit a war crimes complaint against 10 Britons who served with the Israeli military in Gaza to the London Metropolitan Police.
Michael Mansfield KC, a member of a leading British group of human rights lawyers, will on Monday deliver a 240-page dossier to the war crimes unit of the London Metropolitan Police, accusing ten Britons of killing Palestinian aid workers and civilians, and indiscriminately attacking civilian areas, including hospitals.
The dossier, which has been prepared in the Hague, also accuses the suspects of coordinated attacks on historic monuments and forced transfer of civilians.
Mansfield, who is known for his work on several landmark legal cases said: “If one of our nationals is committing an offence, we ought to be doing something about it. Even if we cannot stop the government of foreign countries behaving badly, we can at least stop our nationals from behaving badly.”
“British nationals are under a legal obligation not to collude with crimes committed in Palestine. No one is above the law,” he added.
The legal team has prepared the dossier on behalf of the British-based Public Interest Law Centre (PILC), and the Gaza-based Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) and covers alleged offences committed by these individuals in Gaza from October 2023 to May 2024.
Sean Summerfield, one of the legal advisers who helped compile the dossier, said it is based on open-source evidence and witness testimony, which together present a “compelling” case.
“The public will be shocked, I would have thought, to hear that there is credible evidence that [British citizens] have been directly involved in committing some of those atrocities,” he said.
The dossier argues that Britain has a responsibility under international treaties to investigate and prosecute those who have committed “core international crimes.”
A significant number of human rights and legal experts have signed a letter of support and have urged the war crimes unit team to investigate the complaint and punish the criminals to the fullest extent of the law.
Since October 7, 2023, when the Israeli regime began its genocidal war in Gaza, it has killed over 50,000 people, most of whom are children and women.
