Iran’s gasoil production up by over 8% in H2 last calendar year

Iran raised its gasoil output by 9 million liters per day in the second half of the year to late March.

Iran managed to significantly increase its gasoil production in the second half of the calendar year to late March amid the rising demand for motor fuel and feedstock in the country’s power plants.

A Sunday report by the Tasnim news agency showed that Iran’s total gasoil production had increased by nearly 9 million liters per day in the second half of the year to March 20 to reach 120.1 million liters per day.

The report showed that gasoil production had increased in 10 major refineries in Iran thanks to new units or renovation projects launched in those facilities.

The Abadan Refinery, located in the oil-rich province of Khuzestan in southwest Iran, was responsible for the largest share of Iran’s increased gasoil output as it raised its daily production by 4.4 million liters to 24.5 million liters, according to the report.

It said that raising gas oil output helped Iran cut back its fuel imports bill by billions last year when the country was facing an unprecedented demand for the fuel in its power plants.

Gasoil deliveries to Iranian power plants increased in the past winter after the Oil Ministry decided to restrict natural gas supplies to the country's industries and the electricity sector.

Iran’s gasoil-producing refineries, which also supply diesel fuel to the country’s fleet of trucks, have been under pressure in recent years mainly because of ultracheap prices that have encouraged fuel trafficking across the borders.

Government estimates suggest that nearly 30 million liters of domestically produced fuel, including 20 million liters of gasoil, is smuggled to Iran’s neighboring countries every day.
