Israeli charade: Extremist settler leader nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Daniella Weiss, founder of the radical Nachala settlement organization

Two Israeli academics have nominated Daniella Weiss, an extremist settler leader advocating for the complete annexation of the occupied West Bank and Gaza, for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.

In a letter to the Nobel Prize Committee, Professors Amos Azaria of Ariel University and Shalom Sadik of Ben-Gurion University submitted the candidacy, claiming that the decades-long efforts by Weiss "have promoted stability" in the occupied Palestinian territory.

They said while the death of a considerable number of Israelis and tens of thousands of Palestinians was recorded in the Gaza Strip, the casualties were "significantly lower" in the West Bank due to, what they termed, the role Weiss played in preventing friction and large-scale conflict.

The two Israeli academics claimed that efforts such as those made by Weiss illustrate how the establishment of Israeli settlements “has prevented violence and enhanced security."

“Weiss’s activities strengthened security and stability, and as a result, contributed to reducing bloodshed in the region,” they stated in the letter.

Weiss, 79, leads the radical Nachala settlement organization that calls for the complete annexation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

She was also a former mayor of Kedumim, an Israeli settlement located in the West Bank.

The provocative language used by Weiss against the Palestinians has led to violent settler attacks.

The international community views the Israeli settlements as illegal under international law and the Geneva Conventions due to their construction on occupied territories.

The UN Security Council has condemned Israel’s settlement activities in several resolutions.

There are 338 candidates nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025, of which 244 are individuals and 94 are organizations.

The winners will be announced in October, with the award ceremony taking place on December 10 in Oslo, Norway.
