Israel's ceasefire violations
The Israeli military has killed another Palestinian in the Gaza Strip in a blatant violation of the ceasefire deal with Hamas. The victim was an 18-year-old Palestinian who lost his life in a drone strike on the southern city of Rafah. Earlier, the Israeli Navy opened fire at an area near Gaza City, injuring several Palestinians there. According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, there have been over 350 Israeli violations since the ceasefire began on January 19th. The death toll from the genocidal war on the Palestinian territory since October 2023 has exceeded 48,300.
Gaza truce talks
The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has called for international pressure on Israel to proceed to the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire. Hamas said the regime must immediately enter the second phase of the agreement. The resistance movement also stressed its commitment to the terms of the agreement in all its phases. A senior Hamas official says negotiations for the second phase haven’t begun yet. The first phase of the ceasefire is set to end on Saturday after several captive-abductee exchanges between Hamas and Israel. Phase 2 is meant to include steps leading to a permanent end to the Israeli war. This includes the return of all remaining Israeli captives in Gaza who are alive and the withdrawal of all Israeli troops from the territory.
Southern Lebanon funeral
In Lebanon, the southern town of Aytaroun holds a large funeral for scores of Lebanese who have lost their lives in Israel’s aggression against the Arab country. Black-clad mourners were waving flags of Lebanon and Hezbollah, paying respect to civilians and resistance fighters who have fallen victim to Israeli attacks. Earlier, footage showed a convoy of vehicles carrying the dead bodies, draped in Lebanese and Hezbollah flags, heading to Aytaroun. Before the beginning of the funeral, Israeli forces opened fire on Aytaroun’s outskirts, in another violation of the regime's ceasefire agreement with Lebanon. In a separate development, the Israeli military says its fighter jets carried out an overnight airstrike on the Lebanese region of Hermel, claiming that a Hezbollah member has been killed in the attack. The Lebanese resistance movement has not commented on the Israeli claim.
