Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and a high-ranking Iranian delegation have discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly in Palestine and Lebanon.
The Iranian delegation, comprising Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, was in Beirut on Sunday to take part in the funeral ceremonies of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the martyred leader of the Hezbollah resistance movement, and his deputy and appointed successor Sayyed Hashem Safieddine.
During the meeting, Aoun stressed the importance of fostering unity and supporting the Palestinian cause.
The Lebanese president highlighted his country’s significant sacrifices for the Palestinian cause.
Qalibaf, for his part, affirmed Iran’s support for Lebanon's decisions free from external interference.
He said Iran is keen to collaborate with Arab and Muslim countries in the reconstruction of areas destroyed by the Israeli regime’s aggression.
The Iranian foreign minister and his Lebanese counterpart Youssef Rajji as well as Iran’s Ambassador to Beirut Mojtaba Amani were also present at the meeting.
Using US-supplied bunker-busting bombs, Israel assassinated Nasrallah, the longtime leader of Hezbollah, in an airstrike on southern Beirut in September 2024.
The following month, the criminal regime assassinated Safieddine, the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, in a similar attack.
Hezbollah postponed funeral ceremonies for both leaders due to fears of Israeli attacks on the ceremony.
On Sunday, massive crowds from various regions of Lebanon and around the world converged in Beirut to attend the historic funeral procession for the martyred Hezbollah leader and former head of its Executive Council.
Speaking upon arrival at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport on Sunday, Qalibaf reiterated Tehran’s support for Lebanon and the resistance.
