Iran calls for regional cooperation

Iran’s foreign minister has warned of foreign plots to exploit political, economic and security divisions among the littoral countries of the Indian Ocean. Abbas Araghchi was addressing the Eighth Indian Ocean Conference currently underway in the Omani Capital, Muscat. He said extra-regional powers seek to undermine natural cooperation among the regional states. The top Iranian diplomat stressed that geopolitical rivalries of global powers should not be allowed to determine the future of the region. Araghchi said decisions about the fate of the Indian Ocean must be made by the countries of this region and should serve the interests of their people. The two-day conference in Muscat hosts participants from over 60 countries and international organizations. It is held under the theme “A Voyage Towards New Horizons of Maritime Partnership.”

UN slams Israeli violence

The UN Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory has condemned Israel’s ongoing military onslaught on the northern part of the occupied West Bank. It called for an immediate halt to alarming wave of Israeli violence and mass displacement of Palestinians. The UN rights office noted that the regime’s forces have killed at least 44 Palestinians, including five children and two women, in Jenin, Tulkarm and Tubas since late January. Calling the killings “part of an expanding pattern of Israel’s unlawful use of force in the West Bank,” the office stressed that many of those killed were unarmed and posed no imminent threat. It cited displaced West Bank residents as saying that they were led out of their homes by Israeli security forces and drones, under the threat of violence. Israeli forces also positioned snipers on rooftops as Palestinians were forced out of their towns, and used their houses as outposts. The office reiterated that any forcible deportation of people from an occupied territory is strictly prohibited and amounts to a crime under international law.

Anti-US outrage

Global outrage continues against US President Donald Trump’s plan to remove Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and take over their land.
