Dismissing talks with US
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei warns of a tit-for-tat move against the US, in case Washington violates the Iranian nation’s security. Ayatollah Khamenei also said negotiations with the US are neither wise nor smart nor honorable. He added that such talks will have no effect on resolving Iran’s problems. The leader pointed to around two years of talks with the US and some other states in the 2010s, as proof that coming to the negotiating table with Washington will be useless. Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran’s foreign ministry is active in diplomatic meetings and signing contracts with the entire world. However, according to the leader, the US is an exception, and the Zionist regime is basically not a government but rather a criminal gang. He made the remarks in a meeting with a group of commanders of Iran’s army air force and air defense force on the occasion of the national air force day. The occasion marks the anniversary of a historic meeting between the late founder of the Islamic Republic and a group of Iran’s army air force servicemen in 1979. In that meeting, the servicemen paid allegiance to Imam Khomeini, days before the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Trump ICC ban
US President Donald Trump’s move to impose sanctions on the International Criminal Court is drawing criticism from across the world, even among Washington’s allies. The Hague-based tribunal, itself, has been defiant, vowing to press ahead with its work. The ICC said it stands firmly by its personnel. It also called on world nations, including its state parties, to stand united for justice and fundamental human rights. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa also blasted Trump’s decision and defended the court. Von der Leyen said the ICC guarantees accountability for international crimes and gives a voice to victims worldwide. She added that it must be able to freely pursue the fight against global impunity. Costa, meanwhile, said Trump is undermining the international criminal justice system as a whole. Germany, another US ally, also criticized the move.
