IRGC chief commends Iranian medical staff for treating Lebanon's pager attack victims

Commander in Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Major General Hossein Salami

The chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has commended Iranian medical staff for their commitment to treating those wounded in the deadly pager explosions across Lebanon.

Major General Hossein Salami made the remarks during a ceremony in the capital Tehran on Sunday, in commemoration of doctors and nurses involved in the treatment of Lebanese civilians and the resistance movement Hezbollah forces who were injured in mass pager explosions in Lebanon in September last year.

“Medicine, treatment and resuscitation know no borders, neither national borders, nor gender borders; neither religious nor ethnic borders. Humans deserve to be treated because they are humans,” he said.

Major General Salami further noted that the doctors and nurses did a very difficult task, describing their efforts as an outstanding honor of the Iranian medical community. He said they prevented the collapse of a system during a period of perseverance and resistance.

He pointed out that in the Gaza Strip, “doctors, nurses, paramedics, and medical workers were repeatedly bombed, shelled, surrounded, arrested, and martyred, but they stood firm.”

The IRGC chief further pointed to the coronavirus pandemic, saying Iranian doctors and medical staff exposed themselves to the risk of the disease at the time with utmost courage.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Major General Salami said Israelis were seeking to wage psychological war in Lebanon to tear the Lebanese society apart, with the explosion of pagers which was similar to the use of weapons of mass destruction,

“This terrorist act showed the true nature of the occupying regime,” he added.

Meanwhile, the commander of the Quds Force of IRGC praised Iranian medical staff for treating Lebanese people affected by the deadly pager explosions by the Israeli regime, saying their “valuable” action was an instance of “resistance”.

"Resistance is not just in the field of war, your action in the medical centers was an example of resistance," Brigadier General Esmail Qa’ani said during the ceremony.

“The whole world saw your resistance in the operating rooms, and this valuable trait was reflected in each and every one of our doctors and all the medical staff who worked in this field," he added.

Separately on Sunday, the senior advisor to the Minister of Health and Medical Education said, "In the first week of this incident, 500 injured people were admitted to our country's hospitals, and in the first month, about 1,500 surgeries were performed on them," referring to the tragic terrorist attack in Lebanon.

"The health system announced its readiness to accept and treat the injured from the first moments of this incident, which ultimately led to the transfer and provision of services to these injured people," Ali Jafarian said at the ceremony.

Explosions targeting pagers and other communication devices across Lebanon by the Israeli regime in September last year killed more than 40 people, including children, and wounded some 3,500 others.
