Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem says the Palestinian people and resistance fighters foiled Israel's "dangerous plan" by accepting a ceasefire agreement to end the regime's war on the besieged Gaza Strip.

In a televised statement from the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Saturday, Sheikh Qassem felicitated the Palestinians on the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and said the deal was a testament to the steadfastness of Palestinian resistance against the occupying entity.

“We congratulate the Palestinian people and their resistance on this agreement, which demonstrates the steadfastness of the resistance, which got what it wanted while the enemy was unable to get what it aimed for,” the Hezbollah leader said.

“The resistance and the Palestinian people foiled Israel’s dangerous plan,” Sheikh Qassem said. “History will record Gaza’s place in the sacrifices made to break the Israeli enemy’s project.”

Pointing to the Israeli assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh and commander Yahya Sinwar, the Hezbollah leader said such sacrifices are what stopped the regime’s sinister scheme and prevented the cancellation of the Palestinian cause.

“The people came out proud and the resistance held its weapons, and the struggling Hamas movement and the al-Qassam Brigades proved their worthiness in leading the resistance and its steadfastness,” Sheikh Qassem said.

“Now every Palestinian child will be born a resistance fighter. We must read carefully the entity’s huge losses in the army, economy, psychological, educational and political situation,” he added.

“Israel is now an outcast on the international level, its image is bleak, and the condemnation of the International Criminal Court is enough to know the extent of this great impact that the resistance of the Palestinian people has had and exposed this Israeli entity.”

The ceasefire, brokered by Qatar and Egypt, was announced by Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani late on Wednesday. It consists of three phases and would come into effect on Sunday over a span of 42 days.

The truce deal, which would potentially bring an end to Israel’s devastating genocidal aggression on the territory, stipulates that a large-scale prisoner exchange will occur, including the release of 1,000 prisoners from Gaza and hundreds of detainees serving lengthy sentences.

Israel launched its brutal Gaza onslaught on October 7, 2023, after Hamas-led resistance groups carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Since October, the occupying regime has killed at least 46,707 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured nearly 110,265 others, in Gaza.

‘Do not test our patience’

The secretary general of Hezbollah said Israel’s aggression on Lebanese soil brought about Lebanon’s “legendary confrontation” with the regime in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

“Confronting Hezbollah in Lebanon contributed to supporting Gaza and the young resistance fighters stood as an impregnable barrier against the advance on the front in a legendary confrontation,” he said.

“Hezbollah and the resistance fighters thwarted Israel’s goal of ending the resistance in Lebanon, which emerged proud and with its head held high.”

Addressing those dreaming of hostility with Lebanon, Sheikh Qassem said, “The resistance in Lebanon will remain resistant to the American-Israeli project, and it is continuing, strong, ready and faithful to the blood of the martyrs to liberate the land and to liberate Palestine.”

Referring to Israel’s two-month truce deal with Hezbollah, the resistance movement’s chief warned, “We have been patient with the violations to give an opportunity to the Lebanese state responsible for this agreement, along with the international sponsors, but I call on you not to test our patience. I call on the Lebanese state to be firm in confronting the violations that have exceeded hundreds. This cannot continue.”
