Russia election "interference"
President Vladimir Putin says the main objective of Ukraine's recent attacks on his country is to interfere with the upcoming presidential election in Russia. In an interview, Putin said the attacks by Ukrainian forces are aimed at diverting attention from their failures on the front line. He added that Russian forces have completely taken over the initiative in the war. The Russian foreign ministry spokesperson also said the US seeks to discourage Russian citizens from taking part in the election, which is due to be held between March 15 and 17. Maria Zakharova says the US also plans to carry out cyber attacks on Russia's remote electronic voting system. Tensions between Russia and the US escalated to unprecedented levels following the war in Ukraine. Putin has once again warned that he's ready to deploy nuclear weapons if his country's sovereignty is threatened.
