Iran-Cuba ties

Iran’s president says the US will not be able to impede the progress of the countries that are standing against it. Raeisi made the remarks during a presser with his visiting Cuban counterpart. The Iranian president also said cooperation with Cuba that's also under sanctions, can nullify the effects of the curbs. Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel is leading a high-ranking delegation in his visit to Tehran. Prior to the presser, the two sides signed a number of MOUs in different fields including economy, agriculture and the health industry. The visit by Díaz-Canel is the first by a Cuban president in more than twenty years. Cuba’s late President Fidel Castro last traveled to Iran in 2001.

Israeli genocide in Gaza

Nearly two months into Israel's bloody onslaught on the Gaza Strip, the regime is wreaking havoc across every corner of the war-ridden territory, leaving a trail of death and destruction. In the North, the regime has pummeled the Jabalia and Nuseirat refugee camps, killing scores of people. It has also struck a school in western Gaza city, where thousands of displaced people were taking shelter. In the east, the regime forces reduced over 50 homes to rubble, killing hundreds. Many more are trapped under the debris. Multiple areas in the south, including Khan Yunis, were also targeted in fresh Israeli attacks, resulting in the death of scores of people. Meanwhile, Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says Israeli forces have directly bombed 14 hospitals. Only a few medical facilities in the Palestinian territory are functional, inundated with thousands of wounded people.  Gaza’s Health Ministry has accused Israel of intentionally striking hospitals to shut them down. Israel resumed its war on Gaza on Friday after a 7-day truce. The regime has killed nearly 16,000 Palestinians since it began its latest onslaught on Gaza on October the 7th. More than half of Gaza’s homes have been destroyed, leading to the displacement of over 80% of the territory's population.

Netanyahu trial

Israel’s prime minister will be facing the resumption of his long-running trial on corruption charges, following a pause due to the onslaught on Gaza. According to Israeli media, the court will resume hearing the case, the first session of which was held in 2020 and has been repeatedly delayed since then. Benjamin Netanyahu is charged with fraud, bribery and breach of trust in three cases. He has denied all the charges. Netanyahu has also been accused of pushing for judicial reforms to bypass his legal problems. The contested legislation triggered months of mass protests against his cabinet ahead of the Palestinians' military operation on October 7. Protesters argue that Netanyahu is trying to use the overhaul to quash possible judgments against him.
