British Parliamentarians missed another opportunity to show any concrete support to the besieged people of Gaza and put pressure on the Israeli regime. By 293 to 125 votes (a majority of 168) MPs rejected the SNP King's Speech amendment calling for 'all parties to agree to an immediate ceasefire'.
Yet, the tide is turning. Dozens of Labour Party MPs voted against the UK government's position which only calls for a humanitarian pause, with many walking away from their front-bench positions in an effort to stop the bloodshed.
The UN Human Rights chief Volker Turk has called for an international humanitarian investigation in Gaza. He has also called for the immediate implementation of the UN Security Council resolution on the humanitarian pause adopted on the same day as the UK parliament vote. But still the bombardment continues, with Tel Aviv bloodlust still unabated.
