E3 violating JCPOA
Iran’s foreign minister says the three European signatories to the JCPOA are trying to evade responsibility for the current limbo state of the deal by going on the offensive and putting Tehran under fake pressure. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was referring to the move by the UK, France, Germany as well as the EU to keep in place sanctions related to Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear program in violation of the 2015 deal. He explained that after the US pulled out of the JCPOA in 2018, the Europeans played for time and used the withdrawal as an excuse to wriggle out of their own commitments under the deal. Amir-Abdollahian said parties to the JCPOA cannot ask for negotiations to revive the deal on the one hand and ramp up pressure on Iran on the other. He vowed that Iran’s response to the recent European violation of the JCPOA will be based on a parliament law and the JCPOA itself.
Israeli strike on Gaza
The Israeli military has launched an airstrike on the Gaza Strip after regime forces opened fire on Palestinian protesters, along the barrier bordering the coastal territory. The regime’s military has claimed that the airstrike targeted an observation post belonging to the Hamas resistance group. The military says it was a response to what it called the riots near the fence separating the besieged region from the occupied territories. Earlier on Friday, hundreds of Gazans held rallies near the fence east of Gaza in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails. Israeli forces fired rubber-coated bullets and tear gas, wounding a dozen Palestinians.
France woes in Africa
Burkina Faso's foreign ministry expels French embassy's military attaché over what it called subversive activities. This is the latest anti-France move by its former colonies in Africa’s Sahel region. The ministry says the attaché and his team have two weeks to leave the county. Burkina Faso is also closing the French military mission there. Several French media outlets have also been suspended in the country over the past months. Similarly, in neighboring Niger, anti-French sentiment is still strong. Now, French President Emmanuel Macron is accusing Nigerian military rulers of taking French ambassador hostage.
