Israeli atrocities
At least 24 Palestinians, including five children, were killed in Israeli attacks in June amid the regime’s violent crackdown in the occupied territories. According to the Palestinian Information Center, most of the deaths happened in the West Bank city of Jenin. The report also put the number of Palestinians killed since the beginning of the year at 186. In its latest round of atrocities last week, regime forces killed seven Palestinians during a raid on the Jenin refugee camp. Israel has intensified its violence against Palestinians, especially since the right-wing cabinet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took power.
Qur’an desecration
Sweden has condemned the desecration of the holy Qur’an in Stockholm after days of angry protests across the Muslim world. The Swedish Foreign Ministry described the move as Islamophobic and offensive to Muslims. It said the blasphemy was committed by individuals at a demonstration and in no way reflects the views of the Swedish government. Sweden had given permission for the desecration to go ahead, citing freedom of expression. People in some Muslim countries urged their governments to sever diplomatic ties with Stockholm as Swedish envoys were summoned. There have also been calls to boycott Swedish products, including by Egypt’s University of al-Azhar. Pakistan’s Istihkam Party started a hashtag to boycott Swedish brands which soon became a top trend on Twitter. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has called for collective measures to prevent future acts of desecration.
Countering MEK terrorists
Iran commends Albania for its recent security measures against the MEK terrorist group. Iran’s Intelligence Ministry hailed the operation by the Albanian police as a QUOTE step forward. The ministry said it had consistently warned European intelligence and security services about the group’s ongoing terrorist activities from their main base there. The ministry vowed that Iran would go after terrorists beyond its borders. On Saturday, the Albanian Prime Minister said the M E K terrorist group must leave the country unless it stops its anti-Iran operations. Last month, Albanian security forces searched the group’s camp several times. The M E K has conducted numerous assassinations and bombings against Iranian officials and civilians since the 19-79 Islamic Revolution.
