Israel atrocities

Israeli forces have shot dead another Palestinian amid mounting tensions across the occupied territories. The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Mohammad Khalid al-Asibi. He was fatally shot near al-Aqsa Mosque in al-Quds. According to eyewitnesses, Israeli forces were trying to violently disperse Palestinians offering prayers in the mosque. The Israeli military claims its troops resorted to live round after a young Palestinian man tried to snatch a soldier’s gun. Al-Aqsa is an exclusively Muslim holy site where non-Muslims are not permitted to engage in their religious rituals. So far this year, Israeli forces have killed around 100 people, mostly in the occupied West Bank.

Heathrow security strike

Security guards at Britain’s Heathrow airport are on strike, demanding pay rises that match record high inflation. About 1,400 guards have joined the ten-day action that began Friday. It started after last-minute talks over an increase in their wages failed. The strike has forced British Airways to cancel around five percent of its flights during the Easter holiday period. The airport has deployed one-thousand extra staff members to assist passengers. The strikers say they’re under immense pressure as the cost of living bites. The strike at Heathrow airport is the latest in industrial actions by UK public and private sector workers in the past several months. More strikes are due later this month. The actions have already caused troubles such as disruptions to health services. Yet, the government has refused to raise pays at the level the workers want. It says big pay hikes are unaffordable and will further fuel inflation already at rates unseen in four decades.

West arming Ukraine

The US is set to announce a new 2.6 billion dollar military aid package for Ukraine to help it fight with Russia. Sources say the new military aid could include air surveillance radars, anti-tank rockets and fuel trucks. It is expected to be announced as soon as Monday. The aid will allow Kiev to prepare for the spring offensive against Russian forces. The US and its Western allies have pumped tens of billions of dollars in military aid into Ukraine since the start of the war last year. Moscow has time and again warned that the military assistance will only prolong the war and add to the suffering of the Ukrainian people.
