Iran's Foreign Ministry commemorates 'Nowruz' ahead of Persian New Year

A friendly gathering, live music, and the "Haft-sin table" ... Diplomatic missions in Iran enjoyed an afternoon getting to know more about Iranian music, literature, culture, traditions, and the Persian New Year referred to as “Nowruz” in particular.
The word Nowruz literally means "new day" and marks the beginning of the solar New Year.
Celebrated for over 3,000 years by Iranian peoples and in the Iranian plateau, Nowruz promotes such values as peace and solidarity between generations and families as well as reconciliation and good neighborliness.
In 2010, it was officially put on UNESCO's list of intangible heritage as the International Day of Nowruz.
Marking of the Persian New Year will take place simultaneously worldwide at the exact moment of the Spring Equinox. However, public events like this one are often held in the lead up to Nowruz marking the occasion with some of the most beautiful traditions serving as a quick reminder that every New Year is a new beginning.
Nowruz is all about celebrating, giving and forgiving. Happy New Year!
