Russia-Ukraine war
Russia says Kiev is storing arms, including US-supplied HIMARS rocket launchers, at nuclear power stations across the country. Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service says an arms shipment was delivered to the Rivne power station in northwest Ukraine last month. However, an adviser to the Ukrainian president dismissed the claim, saying his country has never used nuclear power plants to store weapons. The aide added that Russian lies are aimed at justifying their provocations. He countered that it was in fact Moscow that seized the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and still keeps its military there. The UN nuclear agency has repeatedly warned about the risk of a nuclear disaster in Zaporizhzhia with both Kiev and Moscow accusing each other of shelling the plant.
US gun violence
The US continues to reel from deadly gun violence. At least two students have been killed in a shooting at a youth outreach center in the state of Iowa. An employee of the center was also injured in the shooting in the city of Des Moines. The center runs a program for at-risk youths. Officials say three suspects have been detained. The motive has not yet been determined by the police. The shooting was the sixth at a school in the US this year in which someone was injured or killed, but the first with fatalities. In a separate shooting outside a Des Moines high school last March, one student was killed and two other teens were badly injured. The latest gun violence comes a day after a man shot dead 10 people during Chinese New Year Celebrations in California.
Peru political turmoil
Security forces have clashed with anti-government protesters in fresh demonstrations in Peru's capital, Lima. Riot police fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. That came after several hundred protesters marched on the capital city to demand the ouster of President Dina Boluarte, calling her a murderer. The interior minister says there is no end in sight to the tumult gripping the nation. The unrest has left 46 dead in the South American nation. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Boluarte and early elections. They are also calling for the release of former president, Pedro Castillo, whose ouster and arrest in December triggered the protests.
