Iran nuclear program
The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran says the country’s enrichment capacity is now twice as high as the total capacity since the early days of its peaceful nuclear industry. Mohammad Eslami says a comprehensive document, created for the development of domestic industries functions as the basis of Iran's nuclear industry. He emphasized that generation of power by nuclear plants has yielded considerable economic benefits for the Islamic Republic. Tehran has already enriched uranium to 60-percent purity. The nuclear advances are being made in response to the US 2018 unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal. Tehran has repeatedly stressed that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
Palestinian brothers killed
Two Palestinian brothers have been killed after they were run over by an Israeli setter near the occupied West Bank city of Nablus. Palestinian brothers Mohammad and Mohanned Mutair were killed when an Israeli settler’s car ran them over and fled the scene close to a checkpoint near Nablus. This is the latest in the long-running trend of Israeli settlers’ acts of violence against Palestinians. Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, slammed the killings. It said the Israeli regime lets the perpetrators get away with such crimes in a bid to further incite violence against Palestinians. Hamas added that such crimes will not stop the resistance of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
Tunisia elections
In Tunisia, the electoral commission says the turnout in the country’s parliamentary elections has been nearly nine percent amid calls by the opposition to boycott the vote. This is the lowest participation in any poll in Tunisia since the popular uprising in 2011. That’s because main political parties, including Ennahda, labeled the election as a sham before the vote took place. Now, they have described the low turnout as "seismic," calling on President Kais Saied to bring all political forces together for consultations. They have called on Saied to quit, saying he has lost legitimacy. Saturday’s vote was more of a challenge to the president as authorities struggle with the need to implement reforms. It took place against the backdrop of an economic crisis that is fueling poverty in the country.
