The Netherlands have topped Group A, and are into the last 16, with a straightforward 2-0 win over host nation Qatar.

The Netherlands, needing just a point to be sure of progressing, put one foot in the next round inside the first half-hour, as Cody Khakpo scored for a 3rd straight group game.

Frenkie de Jong then added another early in the 2nd period, as the Dutch cruised into the last 16. Louis van Gaal's side ended with 7 points at the top of the Group.

Senegal joined them in the knockout phase as runners-up, after beating Ecuador 2-1. Meanwhile, Qatar became the first home team in World Cup history to finish the group stage without a point.
