Iranian animated film Dolphin Boy has become a box office hit in Russia with ticket sales reaching $1.7 million in only two weeks since its premier in the country.

A Wednesday report by Fars news agency said that Dolphin Boy, released on April 7, had been on screens in 270 theaters in Russia since early June.

Figures on the Box Office Mojo website showed that the film had earned over $1.689 in theaters in Russia and CIS countries.

“The international success for Dolphin Boy shows the Iranian animation film industry has a promising future,” said the report by Fars.

The film tells the story of a little boy who goes through an adventurous life in the sea after surviving a plane crash.

It is a product of the Sebyan Studio, the animation department of Iran’s Owj Arts and Media Organization.

Reports in the Iranian media in December 2018 had said that German and Russian investors had contributed to the production of the movie.

Dolphin Boy is expected to debut in Iranian cinemas in September.
