Tunes of happiness ring as Iranians are gearing up to usher in the Persian New Year, known as Nowruz.

Days ahead of the occasion, Iran's city of Hamadan hosted folk music bands from different provinces to sing, dance and celebrate the ancient tradition of Nowruz, each ethnicity in its own unique style.

Nowruz marks the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere, which falls on March 21 every year.

The ancient tradition has been celebrated by Iranians since three millennia ago.

Now this initiative, taken by UNESCO's Tehran office, is aimed to introduce this ancient tradition and showcase various Iranian traditions that mark Nowruz.

Iran is known for its diverse demographic makeup as well as its four-seasonal weather, offering visitors a wide variety of choices to spend during Nowruz.

This caravan of Nowruz will then leave Hamadan for the city of Kermanshah and then Sanandaj to share the festive mood with their fellow Iranians there.

Iran starts Nowruz celebrations a week ahead of the Persian New Year, and Hamamdan is no exception.

While each province has its own way of celebrating the festivity, all share the same message of peace, not only among different people, but between humankind and Mother Nature.
