Bahrain summons protesters for questioning in aftermath of first visit by Israeli FM

The Bahraini regime authorities have summoned dozens of citizens for questioning over their participation in protests against the normalization of relations between Manama and the Israeli occupying entity.

Bahrain al-Youm news website reported on Monday that the Bahrainis were summoned as part of an investigation in the town of Hamad, without elaborating on details regarding their fate.

Also on Monday, people took to the streets of the village of Diraz to denounce the opening of the Israeli embassy in Bahrain.

On September 30, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid marked his first official visit to Bahrain by inaugurating the embassy in Manama, one year after a US-brokered normalization of ties between the two regimes.

Bahraini protesters staged nationwide rallies to express their vehement opposition to Lapid’s trip to the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom.

They set ablaze Israeli flags and carried Palestinian flags in solidarity with the Palestinian nation and their legitimate cause.

The demonstrators also chanted slogans such as “Down with Israel” and “Get out of Bahrain” and “No to Zionist embassy on Islamic Bahrain.”

Palestinian resistance group Hamas denounced Bahrain’s reception of the Israeli foreign minister as an extension of the sin of signing normalization deals with the Israeli regime and a “national crime” against the interests of Arabs and Muslims.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid’s visit to Bahrain draws a sharp rebuke from regional resistance groups.

Bahrain, along with the United Arab Emirates, signed the peace pact with Israel during an official ceremony hosted by former US president Donald Trump at the White House last September. Sudan and Morocco followed suit later in the year and inked similar US-brokered normalization deals with the regime.

Palestinians condemned the deals as a treacherous “stab in the back” of their cause against the decades-long Israeli occupation.

Palestinians are seeking an independent state in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip with East al-Quds as its capital.
