"US crimes against humanity"

A senior Iranian diplomat has lashed out at the new US administration for refusing to remove sanctions on Iran. Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a tweet that the Joe Biden administration has contributed to these crimes against humanity since it took office months ago. Araghchi underlined Washington has targeted Iranians with cruel and illegal sanctions for nearly three years now. His comments come as the new US administration has so far failed to remove the sanctions imposed on Iran by former US President Donald Trump. Washington has even refused to ease restrictions on the import of medical equipment and medicine at a time when Iran is struggling to control the COVID-19 outbreak.

Hamas reaction

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says its confrontation with the Israeli regime will continue no matter what the new Israeli cabinet’s line-up will be. Hamas added that a stiff resistance should be put up against Tel Aviv in whatever manner using whatever tool, including armed resistance. The Palestinian movement stressed that holding multiple elections in Israel indicates the severity of the crises Tel Aviv is faced with. Hamas’s reaction came after the Israeli parliament voted in favor of a new coalition cabinet, ending Benjamin Netanyahu's 12-year tenure as prime minister. Now right-wing Naftali Bennett will lead the new cabinet for two years before his centrist ally Yair Lapid takes over.

NATO China policy

NATO’s secretary-general says the alliance should forge a stronger common policy toward what he called an increasingly dominant China. Jens Stoltenberg said China has the biggest navy and is investing massively in new military equipment, adding that those issues affect our security. His remarks come as the G7 summit, held in the UK, also took a stronger collective stance toward China, calling on Beijing to respect human rights and allow freedom of navigation in the South China Sea. Beijing hit back at the Group of Seven leaders, saying the days when small groups of nations decided the fate of the world were long gone.
