International Quds Day

People across the globe are marking the International Quds Day which falls on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan. Various events, including speeches by political and religious leaders, are held to mark the occasion. In the Iranian capital Tehran, a group of people gathered at one of the city’s main squares called Palestine. There, they burned US and Israeli flags. Before the pandemic, people filled the streets across the world to mark International Quds Day. But, rallies have now been canceled in many countries. Quds Day was designated by the late founder of Iran’s Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in 1979 to show support for the Palestinian people in their struggle against Israel’s occupation of their land.

Israel atrocity

Israeli forces have shot and killed two Palestinians in the northern occupied West Bank. Another Palestinian was critically wounded too. That’s according to the Israeli media citing a police official. The media reports say the three Palestinians had guns and fired shots at the Salem police base. They say, Israeli forces responded with gunfire. No Israeli casualty has been reported. Palestinians have not commented yet. Israeli soldiers frequently target Palestinians in the occupied territories. They cite different excuses and accuse the Palestinians of trying to harm the soldiers.

India Coronavirus crisis

Covid infections in India have hit another grim daily record of more than 414,000 new cases. The new figure has pushed India’s total cases to nearly 21.5 million, the second largest in the world. The country’s Covid deaths have increased by almost 4,000 to over 234,000. The virus has surged in big cities in the past few weeks. Now, Indian authorities say it has spread to rural areas. The surge has also caused a health crisis. Hospitals are overwhelmed and struggling with severe shortages of medicines and oxygen supplies. Many states have imposed restrictions. But, the government is reluctant to impose a national lockdown due to the economic fallout.
