After missing some big chances, the Catalan giants finally got on the scoresheet when Oscar Mingueza scored with the outside of his foot just before the hour mark.
Barca were so close to scoring a last gasp equalizer, but Ilaix Moriba hit the crossbar, as the hosts survived the nail-biting finish.
With the victory, Zinedine Zidane's side joined Atletico Madrid on 66 points at the summit, although their city rivals can move 3 points ahead, if they win their match over at Real Betis on Sunday.
Barcelona have now moved down to 3rd, a single point behind the leaders.
