Over tennis news, Alexander Sveegev of Germany has advanced to the 2nd round of the Mexican Open with an easy win over Carlos Alcaraz of Spain.
Sveegev, who is seeded 2nd behind Stefanos Sitsipas, dropped the first two games, before breaking the Spaniard 3 times on his way to a 6-3 win in the opener.
The German displayed a solid performance, winning 5 successive games to see-off Wildcard Alcaraz 6-1 in the 2nd set. It took Sveegev 86 minutes to set up a 2nd round meeting with Laslo Jere of Serbia.
Meanwhile, Sebastian Korda also made it to the next round with a straight sets victory over Marin Chilich of Croatia. The American rallied from 5-3 down in the opener, and won the next 4 games to take it 7-5.
They both dropped their first 2 service games in the 2nd set, but Korda broke Chilich in the 5th game to take a 3-2 lead and never looked back. Next up for him will be a meeting with 7th-seeded Canadian Felix Auger Aliassima, who defeated Tennys Sandgren of the USA 6-3 and 7-6.
