Iran has officially launched its vaccination program, with the son of Iran’s health minister being the first Iranian volunteer to receive the Russian Sputnik-V vaccine. Doctors, nurses and medical workers there received the first doses of Russian vaccine.
Speaking at a ceremony at Imam Khomeini hospital Iran’s health minister said Iran has chosen and imported one of the least harmful and less dangerous.
In a video address, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said the vaccination campaign will ensure health of those who receive it.
Iran received the first vaccine shipment containing 500-thousand doses last week. It is planned to receive a total of two million doses of Sputnik-V by the end of March.
Iran’s vaccination campaign comes as the country is working on its two domestically-produced vaccines namely CovIran and Razi Cov-Pars which are at the stage of human trials.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry the country’s mass vaccination program will be completed until the end of the next Iranian calendar year.
