In pictures: Iranians commemorate their national hero on his martyrdom anniversary

A driver looks through the window of his car as a huge mural is installed in Vali Asr Square in downtown Tehran on January 3, 2021, in commemoration of General Soleimani on the first anniversary of his assassination by the US.

January 3rd marks the first martyrdom anniversary of General Qassem Soleimani, Iran's top anti-terror commander, who was assassinated in a US drone strike during a visit to Baghdad, Iraq's capital.

Iranians across the country have commemorated their national hero on the occasion, cherishing his achievements in establishing security within the country and beyond its borders in the region, and pledging that his immortal principles and philosophy will continue to live on.

Mohammad Reza (L) and Zaynab, General Soleimani's children, are seen at a commemoration ceremony in Tehran on Jan. 3, 2021.
