Iranian lawmakers have voiced their protest against Turkish President's meddlesome remarks, saying the words were detrimental to regional peace and stability.
Recitation of a poem by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a military parade in Azerbaijan Republic was strongly condemned by the Iranian lawmakers and the government officials. Right after his statements which Iran believes may fan separatism among Azeri minority, Tehran summoned the Turkish envoy.
Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a tweet rejected the remarks saying that no one can talk about Iran’s beloved Azerbaijan.
Although the Turkish foreign minister has given assurances in a phone call with FM Zarif that Ankara respects the Islamic Republic’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the members of the parliament vehemently slammed such remarks.
Many believe that Erdogan should realize that the era of such interventionist remarks is over and the Turkish president must never forget that his policies have repeatedly been defeated in the region. In Syria, despite being an ally of the US, and Israel his policy of supporting terrorists failed and he finally became the spokesman of the brutal terrorist groups.
Erdogan’s statements come as his efforts to join the EU have been futile, and the Europeans impose more and more sanctions on Ankara under different pretexts.
The lawmakers also issued a statement condemning the interventionist remarks by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan saying that such statements may put the security of the region at risk.
