Google has once again blocked access to PressTV’s YouTube account supposedly because it violated export laws.
You may have thought PressTV was a journalism organization that published news stories? O no, according to the Trump regime, US law prohibits access to controlled information for reasons of national security. Translation: Allowing Americans to read the truth about Iran, Russia, China, Cuba, Syria, Palestine or Venezuela will damage the security of the liars in the US government and media.
They’ve been concocting fake narratives about all these nations and feeding them to the American people through corporate media for years and if US citizens become aware that their government consistently lied to them, the security of some of these officials would be threatened.
The Trump regime has been more brazen about this censorship than its predecessors, but they are conforming to the policy established 75 years ago when the US started a ‘cold war’ with the Soviet Union. Once the officials in Washington have designated some country as an enemy (also known as revisionist powers), the US press accepts every lie coming out of the State Department, CIA, Pentagon, or the White House about that nation. If one rejects those lies and tries to speak the truth, they are labeled as a tool of our enemy and anti-American.
Iran is not alone here. The US has concocted many fanciful tales about President Putin and the Russian Federation - they poison their own citizens in England by poisoning doorknobs, they pay the Taliban bounties to kill American soldiers, they poison a minor opposition figure in Siberia with the same, obviously ineffective, toxin they used with the Skripals. China, by contrast, is accused of injecting spyware in Huawei equipment, harvesting data from TikTok and WeChat for nefarious purposes. With smaller nations like Venezuela, they simply appoint some random puppet as President and steal all the legal government’s funds and hand them to him.
Sitting here in the US, I see this as encroaching fascism. Not the fascism the Democratic Party attributes to President Trump, but the fascism that is increasingly required as an Empire goes into obvious decline. When it is becoming increasingly obvious that the mythology of the United States is far from the truth, that our government lies so much that one can take nothing they say at face value, then our vaunted freedom of speech and the free press must be sacrificed so that the people will not demand an end to the Empire.
Too late. The election of Donald Trump was an expression of hopelessness by working people whose lives have become increasingly desperate. The riots in the streets of US cities are evidence of anger among people of all races - anger that the systemic racism and police violence has not only been ignored but been made worse over the last decades. The fact is that about half of Americans are so distrustful of their government, they won’t even wear masks to protect themselves from COVID-19. Regardless of the outcome of our upcoming election, we are likely to have riots in the streets between gangs angry about the results, or lack of them.
The Empire is crumbling from within but the imperial establishment is not going to give up quietly. War is more likely than ever now as politicians try to hold onto power. More than ever before, the American people need to hear the voices of Press TV, RT, CGTN, Telesur, and other media that tell the truth. More than ever, the establishment is trying to silence those voices.
