Three people, including a four-year-old boy, are dead following a severe storm in Melbourne overnight that left thousands without power or clean drinking water on Friday.
A four-year-old boy, a 59-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman died due to falling trees in three unrelated instances on Thursday evening.
Wind gusts of over 100 km/h downed power lines which led to a potential contamination of the water supply to 88 of Melbourne's suburbs. Residents have been advised to boil all water before use.
Recovery efforts have been hindered due to the strict COVID-19 lockdowns in the region, and special exemptions to the rules were made for those affected by the storm.
COVID-19 restrictions also meant that a majority of Melbourne's work force are currently working from home, where thousands were left without power until Friday afternoon, according to local media.
