A man has crashed his car into other vehicles on a motorway in the German capital, Berlin, causing a traffic jam and threatening people with a metal box that he falsely claimed to contain explosives.
Six people were injured after the man, an Iraqi national, crashed his vehicle into several other cars, motorbikes, and a motor scooter, on Tuesday night, according to news website The Berlin Spectator.
Once his vehicle came to a halt, the 30-year-old got out and placed a metal box on the road. According to the German media, he warned people not to get close “or all of you will die.”
Police later opened the box, which did not contain explosives, it said. No explosives were found in the man’s vehicle, either.
A police spokeswoman said she would not rule out terrorism, but said the man, now in custody, might suffer from psychological disorders.
A car plowed into a group of people and injured seven people in Berlin last month. The incident initially raised speculation about potential terrorism, but Berlin police soon said the driver had lost control while speeding.
Berlin was the scene of a terrorist attack in December 2016, when a 23-year-old man crashed his truck into a crowded Christmas market, killing at least 12 people and wounding dozens of others.
