Hundreds of US officials once working for former Republican President George W. Bush are turning to Democratic presumptive nominee Joe Biden instead of President Donald Trump.
The political action committee called "43 Alumni for Biden" made the announcement in a statement Wednesday.
“We know what is normal and what is abnormal, and what we are seeing is highly abnormal. The president is a danger,” said Jennifer Millikin, one of the 43 Alumni organizers.
Bush himself, however, “won’t be wading into this election,” according to his spokesman Freddy Ford and it is not clear whether he supports the group.
“This November, we are choosing country over party,” said Kristopher Purcel, one of the members. “We believe that a Biden administration will adhere to the rule of law... and restore dignity and integrity to the White House.”
Karen Kirksey, another member, suggested that the initiative has been successful in gaining support.
“We really have had overwhelming support for our efforts,” Kirksey said.
The US president has often been referred to as a threat to the US national security by his critics.
“This is the swamp – yet again – trying to take down the duly elected President of the United States,” Erin Perrine, a Trump campaign spokeswoman, said of 43 Alumni for Biden:
The president has previously referred to his Republican foes as “human scum.”
