Trump campaign breaks record, reporting $131m raised in June

The Trump campaign has broken a record that “eclipses the total raised in any single month of 2016,” by raising $131 million in June.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) made the announcement Wednesday.

“After yet another haul of record-breaking support, the voters are speaking loud and clear – they support President Trump,” RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement.

So far, the RNC and the Trump campaign have raised a total of $947 million, involving $266 million in the second quarter of this year.

This is while, according to The RealClearPolitics average, former Vice President Joe Biden is ahead of Trump by10.1 points in polls.

“As Joe Biden remains hidden in his basement, President Trump is leading this country to a Great American Comeback that will reignite our economy, restore law and order, and usher in a new era of strength," McDaniel said.

McDaniel’s talk of strength came as Trump was struggling with multiple crises, including the deadly surge in the covid-19 pandemic.

“Any suggestion that the president is not working around the clock to protect the health and safety of all Americans, lead the whole-of-government response to this pandemic, including expediting vaccine development, and rebuild our economy is utterly false,” White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere said in a statement. “While Do-Nothing-Democrats smear and slander this president, President Trump is going to ensure our nation is healthy, strong, and has a growing, prosperous economy.”

Trump, who has not appeared in public since Friday, visited one of his own private golf courses in Virginia on Saturday despite the pandemic and the nationwide struggle to tackle racial injustice and police brutality.
